Overview

QuarterLine (QL), a Planned Systems International (PSI) company, is seeking multiple Registered Nurses to join our team providing meaningful and critical care for our country’s veterans at Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston, TX. Services are onsite and include support for the Intensive Care Unit and other Critical areas in a state-of-the-art facility. We are looking for RNs able to utilize broad clinical knowledge to assess, implement health promotions and prevention interventions, manage acute and chronic care, rehabilitation, and support care for terminal conditions.

Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities

  • Provide patient/ resident-centered care by performing the following tasks:
    • assess the health care needs of the patient/resident and maintain or develop a plan of care to meet interdisciplinary goals,
    • assess and act on significant changes in the patient’s/resident’s health condition,
    • carry out the plan of care by performing/assigning delegated tasks,
    • collect and document pertinent data into the electronic patient/resident medical record using designated temp plates with no personalized or customized documentation,
    • complete nursing assessments within required time frames, and in accordance with policy and procedure,
    • identify and act on predictable needs of the patient/resident,
    • meet the health care needs of patient/resident by assessing and assisting the patient/resident to meet expressed needs,
    • meet the emotional and spiritual needs of patients/residents and/or families,
    • prioritize and complete tasks within the RN’s assigned shift.
    • update patient/resident care plans,
    • notify assigned physician of any changes in condition,
    • Practice the VA core values Integrity, Commitment, Advocacy, Respect, and Excellence (ICARE),
    • report incidents of verbal or physical abuse immediately to the Nurse Manager of the unit they are assigned; or designated off-shift nursing leadership.
  • Perform the following:
    • head-to-toe assessment, insert IV lines, care and management of peripheral and central lines, including PICC lines,
    • administer medication including IV,
    • coordinate and participate in admission and discharge of patient,
    • measure vital signs/hemodynamic monitoring including Pain (the 5th Vital Sign), pulse oximetry, etc.
    • perform wound care including dressing changes (sterile and non-sterile) and obtaining wound cultures as necessary,
    • obtain and deliver specimens to lab, tracheostomy care,
    • perform non-acute and/or acute ventilator care, if needed,
    • perform suctioning including oral, nasogastric, and tracheostomy,
    • perform deep suctioning, which may include obtaining specimens,
    • assess for and administer tube feedings,
    • assist with routine urinary and bowel elimination including catheters, colostomies, and digital stimulation educate patients/residents and/or families regarding health and diagnoses and education administration including indications for the medication,
    • respond and assist in an emergency,
    • provide clinical oversight to Licensed Practical Nurses, Nursing Assistants, Health Technicians and Intermediate Care Technicians.

Minimum Requirements

  • Current and unrestricted RN license from a State, Territory or Commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Assoc or Bacc Degree in Nursing (accredited by ACEN or CCNE)
  • 1 yr min exp in Critical Care Nursing
  • Experience must be w/in past 5 yrs: Specialty Care-SICU/CCU/MICU/ICU/PACU/Cath Lab/Bronch, Emergency Department & Stepdown)

Desired Qualifications

  • Prior VA experience welcomed.
  • Experience working in hospital or high-volume environments.
  • Technically proficient in the skills necessary to fulfill the government’s requirements, including the ability to speak, understand, read, and write English fluently.

Physical Demands

  • Be physically capable of carrying out measures under the “Prevention and Management of Disruptive Behavior (PMDB),” which includes prevention techniques, self-defense, and the ability to perform a therapeutic containment to provide care in the Acute Medical/Mental Health units.
